Call Me Irresponsible?
Posted by admin / Under Parents
While baby boomers are still the driving force that controls Americas cultural and spending habits, when it comes to preferred methods of communication, they are pathetically out of the loop. These days, phone calls are out and texting is in, which can create another area of tension between parents and their 18 to 34 year old millennial offspring, according to the Washington Post. Young people say its a control thing but its more likely a new media thing. The view among those 18 to 34-year-olds in the Facebook and Twitter set is that making a phone call is invading...

Posted by admin / Under Parents
Anyone who has ever tried to sue a school, change a PTA, join a school board, or in any way to manipulate what a public school was doing, please share your experiences and suggestions. To start the discussion, here are a few options: YAHOO GROUPS: anybody can form a group on Yahoo. I know of a group in Jersey City where parents share notes about teachers, courses, and candidates. This is an easy way to mobilize 100 or 200 people so theyre all on the same page when they deal with the school. PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION: Martin Gross, in his book...

Activist Group Threatens Lawsuit Unless Happy Meal Toys Banned
Posted by admin / Under Parents
Taking the Santa Clara County, Calif. Happy Meal toy ban to the national level, a radical consumer activist group is threatening to sue McDonalds if it continues to include toys in kids meals. McDonalds is the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children, said Center for Science in the Public Interests (CSPI) litigation director Stephen Gardner. McDonalds use of toys undercuts parental authority and exploits young childrens developmental immaturityall this to induce children to prefer foods that may harm their health. Its a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction. Gardner couldnt be more wrong in his...

Principal to Parent: "Eat (Expletive) and Die"
Posted by admin / Under Parents
PTA wants Coconut Grove Elementary principal firedA Miami elementary school principal might be in store for a paddling after she mistakenly sent an e-mail telling a parent what she really thinks of her. The e-mail, which told the parent to "eat s--- and die," was actually meant for the assistant principal of the school, not that that makes it any better. Honestly, how many teachers or principals have wanted to send this type of e-mail to an annoying parent, but never had the guts (or stupidity) to hit the "send" button? We'd guess every single one of them. Now the...
